Recent figures out from the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade state that Spain received around 9 million tourists in the first quarter of this year which represents an increase of 2.9% during the same period in 2010.
The full article on Kyero suggests that tourists from the Nordic block of countries account for much of this increase. It comes as no surprise to realise that the increase is also coming from those countries also in the Eurozone. With the significant losses experienced by the pound against the euro in the same period, the UK is not one of the countries contributing to the increase in tourism figures even though Spain continues to be one of the most popular holiday destinations for the Brits.
Tourism in Marbella
Andalucía is in third place for the increase in tourists just below the Canary Islands and Catalonia and above Madrid and Valencia.
Finally, the numbers are beginning to point in a more positive direction and there are good signs that the economy and tourist industry in Spain are slowly on the up to a full recovery.
